DAY THREE
Manchester. Sigh, what can I say? We didn't get along all that well. No, that late night hotel hunt can only be described as sketchy and just about did me in. The city never really redeemed itself from there, though I admit, it did offer a slightly better impression in the daylight. Still, I was more than ready to hightail out of there less than twenty-four hours after my arrival.
So, it is with this bittersweet memory that I offer you one picture of my stay in Manchester. The purple fire escape (shown above) captured me and my travel buddy's hearts immediately. It was funky and fabulous.....and, really quite unexpected.
Do you have any funny / sketchy travel stores to share? If so, please do tell! I'd love to know that I'm not the only one who's plans go awry ;)
Coming soon: photographs of the charming town of Chester!

Those purple stairs would make me smile too. Someone was thinking when they painted them purple ..... Probably thinking the area needed something to make you feel better while strolling though the "sketchies" Worked didn't it?
ReplyDeleteThey sure were the bright spot of Manchester, that's for sure!
DeleteActually love the brick building(s) too, as I imagine you did (would have) too, if you'd been feeling safe vs. sketchy. :)
ReplyDeleteI did love the brick buildings. They were so beautiful.
DeleteI just love all the "unusual" about Europe! Great picture! Can't wait to read your entry about Chester. We were there too and loved the exquisite Tudor buildings.
ReplyDeleteYou were in Chester too?! It was one of my favourite parts of my trip. Such a gorgeous little town.
DeleteAww, I'm sorry to here Manchester wasn't very good to you. I like to be spontaneous when we travel but the one thing I have to plan is where we're sleeping! I guess that's all part of the fun of traveling, hopefully you'll look back and laugh one day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine. It wasn't all bad...but every trip has to have that one stop that you "remember" for years to come! LOL.
DeleteYes...I'm always a tad anxious when I don't know where my next rest stop will be (that and my next meal!).
i'll let you know after this weekend...;)
ReplyDeleteHA! KIDDING
*knock on wood*
Bahaha!!! You're too funny. So far our weekend getaway has involved no sketchiness and pure awesomeness.
DeleteYou asked for stories so here goes. We stayed in a small town that had only one hotel, turns out it was infested with moths.
ReplyDeleteIt was summer and very hot,the air conditioner didn't work so we had to keep the window open and this seemed to be an invitation for all the moths in the vicinity to come into the room.
There was no where else to sleep besides the car so we toughed it out.
We still laugh about it years later.
A moth infestation?! Oh my. That beats out my experience hands down. Way to take something positive away from that horrendous experience and make it into a memory that lasts a lifetime!
